About

WordCamp Manchester is a casual, locally organised conference covering everything related to WordPress, the content management system that powers over 75 million sites on the web.

A WordCamp’s heart and soul is the community that it serves. From bloggers to professional WordPress developers, we aim to cater to everyone’s needs with a two-track conference on Saturday, followed by a contributor day on Sunday.

This event is run by a team of passionate volunteers whom are dedicated to ensuring that everyone at the event feels welcome, respected and safe.

We have written a code of conduct. Please make it your aim to ensure that WordCamp Manchester is a harassment-free experience for everyone.

Saturday 28th June

Saturday’s program is Conference Day.

The format for the day will consist of two tracks running simultaneously, with each track being 8 sessions to choose from. The day will be split up with coffee breaks and lunch will be provided.

After the WordCamp ends (around 5pm), there will be a Social Event with a buffet of food and drinks to round the day off. This is the perfect setting to meet, network and connect with the WordPress community.

Sunday 29th June

Sunday’s program will consist of a Contributor’s Day. This is the perfect event for people whom want to spend time contributing back to the WordPress eco-system.

You do not need to have any previous experience of contributing, but having a laptop with you will greatly help. There will be people on hand to help you get set-up, and show you how to contribute back to the community.

If you have experience with contributing, it is a great way to block out some of your precious time to dedicate to WordPress, and the last one we held was great fun !

WordCamp Manchester is being brought to you by Manchester WordPress User Group, who are lovingly known as MWUG for short.

The user group is a monthly meet up where all things WordPress are discussed. The group splits our meet up into two sessions.

The first session is from 18:30 – 19:30 when general topics are discussed including latest news, Q&As, demos, talks, and more… and total beginners are very welcome. The later session from 20:00 – 21:00 covers more technical aspects of WordPress… and everyone is welcome to attend too.

Currently the group meets up on the third Wednesday each month at MadLab, Edge Street, Manchester.

You can find the group on Meetup.

The panoramic black and white image, which has been unearthed in the archives at The University of Manchester, shows a development version of an early computer called ‘The Baby‘.

The Small Scale Experimental Machine – to give the Manchester invention its full title – successfully executed its first program on 21 June 1948 – and paved the way for the computers, iPods and mobile phones we all take for granted today – and WordPress!
